Wet/Hot Taps

WMI is in the business of solving piping problems where the system is in operation and needs modification which requires tying in new piping to an existing system which is in operation. Most importantly the system can not be shut down or drained.

Wet Taps (also known as Hot Taps and Pressure Taps) can add branch lines of the same size or a smaller size of an existing main. This operation consist of welding a thread-o-let or flanged pipe spool to the existing pipe. Next a valve is installed and the tapping machine drills through the newly installed valve. The drill is withdrawn through the valve and the valve is closed and the tapping machine is removed. the completed work ends with a valve in a closed position on the existing main and ready for any piping connections.

Common uses for wet taps include: Chilled water and condenser water systems, plumbing for domestic cold/ hot water piping loops, fire sprinkler piping and others.

Sizes 1/2" thru 2" are full port ball valves and valves 2½" and over are flanged gate valves.

Our present capabilities are 1/2" up to 12" nominal pipe size.
